Alongside the now world renowned lighters, in the last few years Zippo has come out with various lines of products ranging from watches to writing instruments, while also improving its outdoor section with tools for the nature and camping fans.
Today we’re featuring a more unusual version of the classic Swiss army knife, designed to improve your experience of setting a campsite, or just building a fire if ever needed. The 4-in-1 Woodsman is a multitool which encompasses an axe, a mallet, a saw and a stake puller – a must have for any survival buff.
[adsense300gray]Despite its plastic look, the Woodsman is a sturdy tool (it’s a Zippo after all), built to resist cutting even through hard wood up to 4 inches in diameter. The steel blade is a decent 15 inches, so it’s not made to play around with and can be stored, together with a spare, in the hatchet’s handle. The hatchet’s blade doubles as the saw’s handle, with its rubber edges giving a comfortable grip. An orange sheath uncovers the hatchet’s 5-inch blade, sharp and lean, suited for chopping and splitting.
The mallet and stake puller’s purpose is mainly to set up and take down tents, but since the stake puller is very particularly designed, to grab only certain kind of stakes, it could remain mostly unused. In some cases, we imagine it may facilitate rope based contraptions if you decide to wedge the hatchet into a tree or into the ground. Obviously, the mallet is much more versatile, allowing you to split logs, nail something down, or crack nuts. When you use the mallet, the hatchet’s blade will be encased, for safety reasons.
Priced fairly reasonable and given its weight and size, the Zippo 4-in-1 Woodsman would be a nice gift even for younger boys (over 14) who love to go camping. Needless to say, it should be used under supervision, because even though it may look like a toy, it can cause some serious harm.
