A Classic, A Legend
Yamazaki was, back in 1923, the very first Japanese malt whiskey distillery. The buildings stand between Osaka and Kyoto, in the blissful serenity of the Vale of Yamazaki. The whiskey distillery is part of the Suntory brand, currently in possession of twelve stills of three different varieties. It is recognized as being one of the best, if not the best distillery in Japan.
The 2016 Vintage
Sherry and Spanish Oak flavors have been a part of the Suntory repertory for around one hundred years. Thing is, after so much time, you can still say they make it taste ingenuous and refined, strong yet not over the edge. This is what Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo accomplished with the Sherry Cask for some years now.
This time around, the 2016 vintage takes a travel back in time. Some classics have been revived. We talk about casks that have been used to gain, for the 2013 vintage, the title of World Whiskey of the Year. Five thousand bottles will be made, all using the same lot of whiskies the 2013 vintage displayed for the base, a simple way for us to imagine how great they will turn out to be. It was already scheduled to arrive on February 1st.
