Leaning Multi Wheel
Yamaha continues to deliver innovation and inspiration in the field of unconventional vehicles. In 2013 they first released a model under the codename GEN, namely Yamaha 01GEN, which was a very big three-wheel motorcycle, for many way too large and impossible to use to maximum potential.
After that, Yamaha O2GEN followed, being exactly an electric-powered wheelchair.
This year, under the very same scope of “Refined Dynamism” concept, Yamaha released two new concept models, the 03GEN-f and 03GEN-x. Basically, they want to keep exploring what the “Leaning Multi Wheel” front suspension of the Tricity scooter can offer.
In the two wheelers sector, recent years saw a lot of new ideas and concepts, but many failed to convince the large audience of the reliability and functionality they can deliver. Maybe Yamaha GEN is here to become a contrary to this preconception.
The 03GEN
Now, what we need to understand and curve our enthusiasm based on is the information that, so far, they are just concepts. So far, we don’t even know if they will become a reality on the streets.
The two make use of the Leaning Multi Wheel front suspension and share some kind of a similar chassis. The 03GEN-f can be thought as the future of motor bike racing concept. This means it’s slim, with 17-inch wheels, a three-disc braking system and radial tires.
The 03GEN-x is the f’s mean brother, featuring spoke wheels, knobby tires and daisy-style rotors for the front disc brakes. It’s this one looking ready to take on the streets rather than the 03GEN-f, probably thought for the tracks.
To me, the concept is looking good, but I’d like to see them both become a little bit more aggressive, with a bit more edge and flair, maybe some consistency. But we have a very good start, let’s just stay tuned and see if and when anything new will be released about them.
