In recent years, some men have become more aware of their grooming needs. They want to look better and give off a good impression of themselves. They’ve learned that taking care of themselves is important and fun, and they’re now used to spending money on their looks.
Ms. Adiza Brimah-Annan, visibility and style strategist, told the Mirror last Wednesday in Accra that men should pay more attention to what their bodies need and put more effort into building a personal brand that fits their personality and goals.
“Grooming is not only for women; men should pay more attention to grooming and personal style because it increases one’s visibility. Take time to build a wardrobe that complements who you are and empowers you to chase your aspirations daily.
If you dress well, it boosts your reputation and helps you stand out. Think of your appearance or self-presentation as a piece of promotional information that makes you worthy of the opportunity you seek”, she said. Ms. Brimah-Annan also added that the way a person looks can “command respect and exhibit competence.”

Skincare
The visibility and style strategist told men to take care of their skin by moisturizing and scrubbing it all the time.
“Men also need radiant and healthy skins. Men who keep facial hair should ensure they keep it clean and most of all it must complement their face shape and lifestyle. Avoid using saliva to moisture your lips by investing in lip balms.
Most men think it is not masculine enough, but there are lip balms that do not have a glossy finish like the ones females use, which men can use. The balms will prevent you from walking around with dry or chapped lips,” she added.
Ms. Brimah-Annan also asked men to keep their nails short and use hand cream more often to keep their palms from getting dry.
Use of perfume
The visibility and style strategist says that men who sweat a lot shouldn’t use perfume to cover up the smell of their sweat. She told them to buy fragrances that help them meet their grooming goals.
When she talked about using perfume at work, she said that the scent should fit the person and the job.
“Aquatic or citrus-scented perfumes work well for people who are very friendly and want to draw attention to themselves. In an office setting, one should refrain from using floral-scented fragrances, because some people may react to them. ” She also asked, “How would you feel if someone comes into contact with you and sneezes because of your perfume?”.
How to look good at work
When it came to men’s accessories, Ms. Brimah-Annan said that they should match their personality and work environment.
She talked about colors by saying that people have been interested in and influenced by colors for a long time. Because of this, she said, when choosing colors, you should look at what they look like.
She advised mixing colors to make them stand out. For example, if you are going to a meeting and don’t want to stand out, you can wear a color that doesn’t stand out too much. Moreover, make sure your socks match the length of your pants and the rest of your outfit when you wear them.
The size of your jacket’s lapel should also match the size of your necktie, and it should reach the top of your belt buckle. She said, “It should fit very well.” She added that loafers or driving shoes shouldn’t be worn to the office because they don’t look professional and don’t match the shoes.
Formal belts
She told people who were going to interviews to learn about the company’s dress code so they could dress appropriately.
“If you work in an organization where there is no particular dress code, it is up to you to develop your personal style. You have to express your worth through your choice of accessories and clothing to create an impression that will influence you and those around you”
