After a relationship spanning two decades and two engagements, Lopez and Affleck wed in a small ceremony over the weekend.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez tied the knot late on Saturday night in a drive-through chapel in Las Vegas, capping a relationship that lasted for two decades, included two separate romances, and made numerous tabloid covers.
The couple’s marriage was announced by Lopez on Sunday in her fan newsletter, On the J Lo, under the heading “We did it.” In April, Lopez announced their engagement in the same newsletter.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” she wrote in a message that was signed Jennifer Lynn Affleck
The Little White Chapel, which has a drive-through “tunnel of love,” is where the couple got married after midnight on Saturday after flying to Las Vegas and waiting in line for their license with four other couples, according to Lopez.
A Bluetooth speaker, according to Lopez, played their quick march down the aisle.
“They were right when they said, ‘all you need is love’. We are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of five amazing children, and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to,” she wrote.
“Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at 12.30 in the morning and at the tunnel of love drive through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with. Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things – and worth waiting for.”
After the Clark County Clerk’s Office in Nevada revealed that the couple had obtained a marriage license that was processed on Saturday, word of their marriage first spread on Sunday. According to the marriage license application, Lopez was adopting the name Jennifer Affleck.
Affleck’s representatives have declined to comment.
The early 2000s relationship between Lopez, 52, and Affleck, 49, that gave rise to the moniker “Bennifer,” was rekindled last year. They previously appeared together in the films Gigli (2003) and Jersey Girl (2004). They got engaged around that time, but never got married because of “excessive media attention,” according to a statement announcing the delay.
Before divorcing in 2004, the couple issued a joint statement in which they claimed that they had been seriously considering hiring three different “decoy brides” at three different locations.
In 2005, Affleck wed Jennifer Garner; they have three kids together. 2018 saw their divorce.
Lopez has previously been married three times. She had brief unions with Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and with Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998. After getting married in 2004, she and singer Marc Anthony were wed for ten years and have twins who are now 14 years old.
