The Weeknd has released the first teaser trailer for his upcoming HBO Max series, “The Idol”.
“The Idol,” starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, will center on a female pop singer who develops a romantic relationship with a cult leader and club owner in Los Angeles. The show is billed as “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood,” according to the trailer, which teases drug-fueled hookup scenes, intense dance rehearsals, and lots of power moves.
The Weeknd, “Euphoria” director Sam Levinson, and the Weeknd’s producing partner Reza Fahim collaborated on the creation of “The Idol.” The cast also includes Anne Heche, Melanie Liburd, Steve Zissis, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Hari Nef, Nico Hiraga, and TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe in addition to Depp and Tesfaye. Although no official release date has been given, the teaser trailer promises that one will be “coming soon.”
The Weeknd stated to Rolling Stone in 2020, “I just want to be a filmmaker. I want to make great cinema.”
Here is everything that is currently known about “The Idol”:
The Cast
Additionally, the cast list appears to be quite impressive. Troye Sivan, an Australian singer-songwriter, is currently listed as a series regular. The Disney Channel star Debby Ryan will also play a part in the show. Jennie from the popular K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK will also make an appearance, though it is not yet known if she will have a recurring part. Hari Nef, Rachel Sennott, Nico Hiraga, Tunde Adebimpe, and Anne Heche are additional cast members.
Release Date
We are unable to predict with certainty when “The Idol” will be available because a release date has not yet been set. We may be looking at a late 2022 or early 2023 release date, though, given that the show only recently released a trailer and that filming for it only just got underway in January. Whatever happens, we’ll be on the lookout.
