Tesla was late again with its latest vehicle release, but this is not something new, as we can recall from previous releases. As the so-called man from the future, Elon Musk, went to the podium to present his vision on Tesla’s latest EV, everybody witnessed the uncovering of Model X, the company’s first SUV. There is plenty to talk about regarding Model X, but we will try to keep it simple and straight to the subject.
First of all, Model X is overly protective with its passengers. It is the first SUV to earn 5 star rating on all its safety tests. This happened thanks to its heavy, low placed battery, making the SUV practically unable to roll over. Also, Tesla’s SUV features a “Bioweapon Defense Mode”. The massive air filter is able to protect the interior environment of the car from all sorts of bacteria and toxic gas. Of course, the structural integrity of the car won’t be easy to compromise, being built to withstand even head-on collisions with minimum damage done to the drive and other passengers.

The other Sci-Fi element that caught the attention of the public was the doors that come with Model X. Called Falcon Wing, they feature sensors that are able to stop the mechanism from allowing the doors to hit the ceiling of the garage. Also, the design allows them to open even in tight spaces between neighbor cars, as Elon Musk demonstrated live on the stage.
According to EPA, Model X 90D features a range of approximately 257 miles or 413km, and boasts a mileage of around 92 mpg combined (highway + city). While the release of future, cheaper Model X SUVs has not been officially announced, Elon Musk speculated a price of plus $5000 from a comparable Model S. For an extra $10,000, buyers can opt for the Ludicrous update, advertising a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
