A Tricky One
What to get: Xbox One vs. PS4? A question troubling every gamer around the world. If you are into console gaming, welcome to that period of the year, when Christmas makes the price tags fall down. Still, if not so, this article is for you too, as consoles are a great gift to do.
Now let’s try figure out which one is best suited for you. In order to get through with this quest, we need to understand that everyone is different. So it depends on what you want from your console, what kind experience you are looking for.
The Difference
Both consoles have a large and wide panel of exclusive games made only for the respective platform. Take a look at who addresses your needs better and give a winner to this category in your mind. Keep it there for when the decision is being made.
Secondly, PS4 is smaller. 5.3×27.5×30.5 cm in dimensions is smaller compared to the 7.9×27.4×33.3cm of the Xbox One. Some call it more sleek and slimmer, but it’s all up to you here. Ultimately, this might prove not to be such a big issue, as Xbox One’s larger size gives a better ventilation system, which can make it last longer. On the other hand, Xbox has better connectivity options, with three USB ports vs. PS4’s two, among others around this category, worthy of mention.
Let’s talk controllers. Basically, here’s where the classic battlefront’s between the two has been for a very long time. Xbox mainly remained to what the controller of the Xbox 360 brought to the overall experience, including power provision, still made with AA batteries. The buttons, materials and the overall experience can be regarded as equal if you have enough experience with both. There are games feeling better on each, of course, so don’t disconsider Dual Shock 4 or the D-Pad. One thing to consider is that PS4’s controllers are heavier now, which is both good and bad. Again, I wouldn’t name a winner here, let’s just admit that both are heavily improved from their last respective models.
UI and Dashboard is also pretty undecided. PS4 is lightweight, maybe less pretentious, some could say. Microsoft has developed a general experience allowing for the recently used content to be around and everything is based on some kind of a Windows 10 experience. With all that, I’d say there is a lot to improve on both fronts, though.
The Share
Here, I’ll be short, even though here are lots of common things the two share. This is because they are easily traceable and have become usual in the last editions released. Years ago, they were a lot fewer and shaded.
For example, I think games look arguably the same when it comes to graphics. Yes, there are details you can spot which would make one better than the other at some aspects. Both have strong and weak points, but when I think of console gaming, graphics is not the main thing I consider, it’s mainly the overall experience.
Speaking of which, if you enjoy gaming with your friends and dear ones, you can perfectly well do it so using each console’s online experience platform. Pricing is mainly the same too, especially around Christmas, when retailers spot the occasion to make offers you can’t refuse, meaning including different kind of bundles or lowering the costs of special edition controllers.
In conclusion, as we can see, there isn’t a clear winner in any category. This is because times in technology are advanced and the difference is made by the little touches of detail, all requiring hands-on approach in order to differentiate the good from the bad. My opinion is to go for the one you think will suit you best. Pay attention to your criteria of choosing and make sure you leave nothing to chance.
