Steve Lacy’s ‘Bad Habit’ tops Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot R&B, Hot Rock & Alternative, Hot Rock, and Hot Alternative Songs charts for the first time. All five streaming, radio, and sales-based rankings for the week of September 10 are topped by Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit.”
For a second consecutive week, the song is in charge of the charts for Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs, and Hot Alternative Songs. The single was crowned king or queen of the charts for Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs on September 10.
According to Luminate, “Habit” sold 1,000 downloads (up 6%), garnered 27.5 million radio audience impressions (up 18%), 20.3 million official U.S. streams (down 2%) and 1,000 streams (down 2%).
Prior to this song, none of the five tallies had been ruled over concurrently or at all. Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs came after Hot Rock Songs in 2009, Hot R&B Songs in 2012, and Hot R&B Songs in 1958 as an all-encompassing genre song list. Hot Alternative Songs, the most recent participant, was founded in 2020.
In parallel, Lacy’s breakout single climbs from No. 3 to a new No. 2 Hot 100 high. It also tops the charts for a seventh week on R&B streaming songs, six weeks on Rock streaming songs, six weeks on Alternative streaming songs, and four weeks on R&B/Hip-Hop streaming songs. It is at the top of the all-genre Streaming Songs list for a third straight week.
Steve Lacy’s ‘Bad Habit’ ” is still developing into a multi-format radio success. It climbs 27–19 on Adult Alternative Airplay, 20–19 on Rhythmic Airplay, and 33–28 on Adult Pop Airplay before breaking into the top 10 of Pop Airplay (11–10). It’s also gaining traction in mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay and alternative airplay.
With 23,000 equivalent album units sold, Gemini Rights, from which “Habit” is the lead single, is at No. 16 on the Billboard 200. To far, 196,000 units have been sold. On the July 30 chart, it debuted at its highest position of No. 7.
