AMG
A for Aufrecht, M forMelcher, G for Großaspach – altogether create AMG, a company founded 45 years ago by two guys plus the irresistible desire and passion for motorsports.
The S 63 AMG coupe was first revealed at the 2014 New York Auto Show. For the first time Mercedes delivers the two-door variant of the luxury sedan with four-wheel drive and a lot of gimmicks.
Exterior
For weight reduction the S 63 AMG Coupé has: outer skin made entirely of Aluminum, Lithium-ion battery, light alloy wheels and carbon ceramic brakes. As a powerful AMG model, the car can be recognized by the “twin blade” grill which holds the central star, and a lot of AMG logos. Still there, but now written in a new font: the V8 biturbo letters are placed on the front wings. The front splitter ,closer than ever to the asphalt, provides down-force and is painted in Silver Chrome. The cooling air grilles are generally covered with black gloss paint. On the back it has a black gloss diffuser that helps reduce drag.
Interior
First of all the Noise-Reduction is incredible. You could drive near a 747 Boeing and still hear your heart beat inside this yacht on wheels. The interior is pretty much the same as the four door version (that means overwhelming luxury and the latest high tech options you can imagine) with less room in the back, sportier AMG bucket seats, three-spoke steering wheel and again, a lot of AMG logos.
[adsense300gray]Engine and specs
The heart of the new S63 AMG Coupé is the revised AMG V8 biturbo with 5.5 liters that produces 585 hp, that means 41 hp more than its predecessor. Its torque rises by 100 to 900 Newton meters, thus, the RWD (real-wheel-drive) model sprints in 4.3 seconds from zero to 100 km/h, and the 4Matic version in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h. For extra charge you can opt for AMG Driver’s Package and the speed will go up to 300 km/h. Despite the additional power, the thirst of the S 63 AMG Coupé is to be decreased compared to its predecessor: 23.3 MPG . Responsible for gear changing is the MCT (Multi Clutch Technology) seven-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing and availability
The new S-Class Coupé from Mercedes will be available from September in this particularly fast AMG version. Official pricing hasn’t been released yet, but we expect the top-of-the-line S63 AMG 4Matic Coupe with AMG Drivers Package and Ceramic Breaks will be priced well over $200,000.
