While Formula 1 newbies will only be able to recall Michael Schumacher or the current F1 champion Lewis Hamilton as the best pilots there ever were, real fans will scream the names of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. The latter became famous mostly for going head to head with Senna, establishing a long lived career in motorsport.
The honor the legacy of the 4 times F1 champion, watchmaker Richard Mille is releasing a limited edition of the RM 80-01 Tourbillion watch. Here’s where it gets interesting. The watch doesn’t even slightly hint towards the epitome of racecar industry; instead, it aims for the other passion of Alain Prost: cycling.
The F1 champion and RIchard Mille worked closely to develop a proper design for the RM 70-01 Tourbillion. The watch features a style that allows it to better fit the wrist of cyclists. Given the odd shape of the case, Richard Mille had to design the tourbillon mechanism around it, incorporating the movement of a bicycle pedal within the system.
The outer case of the RM 70-01 is made from military grade Titanium and hosts the mechanism along with with a 70-hour energy supply.
Priced at $815.500, the RM-70-01 Tourbillion will also bring along to each buyer a bespoke bicycle offered as gift. The bikes are designed by Alain Prost and Richard Mille along with Italian bike maker Colnago. All 30 bikes are hand assembled and painted in the same colorway as the watch.
