While back in May 2015 we were able to witness the introduction of the 911 Carrera and Boxster “Black Edition” versions, Porsche recently released a similar variant for the Cayman. Famous customization options for the inside and outside of the car are mixed together with the black on black colorway. Based on the non-S model, Cayman hides a 2.7 liter, 275 hp flat six engine.
Along with the standard features available for the Cayman, the Black Edition also comes with 20 inch Carrera Classic wheels, bixenon headlights, and as expected, black or metallic black colorways. Unfortunately, there isn’t much else out changed for this version; however the color does drastically change the aspect of the car, making it look even meaner and faster than the metallic silver does on the standard version of the Cayman.
The mid-mounted engine tops up at 7,400 rpm, delivering the power to the wheels either through a manual transmission or a PDK gearbox. The PDK reaches 60 mph a little faster than the manual, scoring 5.1 seconds in sport plus mode against 5.3 seconds on the manual gearbox. Even with the extra push, chances are some Porsche fans will be disappointed. The six flat engine may not be what they expected to find on the beast, when the 325 hp Cayman S or 340 hp GTS engines were laying around.
Still, chances are Cayman Black edition will sell well, although the price won’t fit your regular car lease. Porsche charges about $6,600 more for the Black edition than for the standard issue, buyers expecting the first deliveries starting January 2016.
