Off-roading is cool, no question about it. Get your high clearance 4×4 monster and start climbing over rocks, dominate swamps and throw mud aside on forest roads. However, off-roading doesn’t happen just for fun. Sometimes you need to go in hard to access locations and keep yourself in one piece; and not just from mud and dirt, but even from bullets. This is where Oshkosh’ S-ATV comes into action.
Powerful engine over big wheels
This machine does not only look threatening; it can really climb or march through mostly any surface, escaping from or hunting its target. On the road, the S-ATV (Special All Terrain Vehicle) uses 335/80 R20 wheels, while for off-road applications it comes with beadlocks and runflats. A 275hp, 6.6-liter V8 Duramax engine pushes forward the 3.7-ton monster, through an automatic 6-speed gearbox.
Combat ready
Apart from being able to go pretty much anywhere, Oshkosh S-ATV is designed to be used in combat. It comes with integrated ready-mounts for a variety of weapons such as machine guns. The modular platform the S-ATV is based on allows for quick and various adaptation of the systems it features, to accommodate mostly any type of mounted guns. A C4I is also presented, allowing for air-transport and drop-down at selected locations.
Would you ever need such a machine? Unless a zombie outbreak happens, you’d probably be out of need for the S-ATV. But would it be fun? You’re goddamn right! Going MadMax style over desert dunes and muddy hills while your buddy maneuvers the .50-cal: that’s some manly stuff.
