Måneskin performed at the 2022 MTV VMAs in their own rock ‘n’ roll fashion.
The Italian alternative trio, which was up for three trophies at the awards ceremony on Sunday night, showed up to the event in coordinating Gucci ensembles.
In the end, the ensemble took home the prize for Best Alternative Video of the Year.
Frontman Damiano David graced the red carpet alongside his bandmates in a Gucci resort 2023 collection ensemble that included a cape made of black tulle and crystals and flared satin leggings.
He was joined by the bassist Victoria De Angelis, the guitarist Thomas Raggi, who was dressed in a Gucci autumn 2022 ready-to-wear black and silver sequin checkered suit, and the drummer Ethan Torchio, who was dressed in a bespoke Gucci black tulle bustier top and matching black bottoms.
Måneskin has already collaborated with Alessandro Michele, the creative director of Gucci, and made an appearance in the fashion house’s Gucci Aria campaign last year.
When the Italian alternative band won the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, they gained international attention the previous year. Måneskin discussed their music career and their style with various outlets before they won.
“We consider fashion as self-expression, and as a way of giving more strength to one’s message. Especially in everyday life, it also helps to find one’s own identity and place in the world, by feeling comfortable with oneself.… In our case, maybe we express ourselves better with music, but [fashion] is something we care a lot about because giving the right aesthetic to a song strengthens its message.” Damiano explained.
A wardrobe malfunction did happen as well at the VMAs. Just a few seconds into Måneskin’s performance, the cameras cut away to show empty seats for a considerable amount of time. Victoria’s top looked to have slipped off mid-song, exposing her breast, which was later revealed.
