Who hasn’t heard of the great Van Gogh? Shunned in his lifetime, but one of the most famous painters in our time, even if you are not familiar with art you were bound to see some of his paintings and know who he is.
Jaeger-LeCoultre, a Swiss watchmaker has decided to celebrate the famous Dutch artist with one of the new watches they have designed. The luxury watch manufacturing company has teamed up with the artist’s’ museum in Amsterdam to make sure that they create the best looking product that represents the art of Van Gogh.
It is a limited edition Reverso watch, and the painting that they have used as a canvas for the dial is the “Self Portrait as a Painter” which Van Gogh did between 1887 and 1888. That particular painting is one of his most famous and also one of the most intimate pieces he did. We get to see how he saw himself at that time. The artist also believed that on this painting his true character can be seen.
This is indeed a very limited edition, as only four watches have been created. The name of the watch is “Reverso à Eclipse Tribute to Vincent van Gogh” and each one is priced at around €101,000. The watches will be sold at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
There is a shutter on the dial of the watch that when opened reveals the miniature painting of Van Gogh. The painting has been enameled on the watch by the excellent craftsmen at the Jaeger LeCoultre company. The time and precision that went into the making of this piece is simply amazing. And, of course, four lucky Van Gogh admirers will have a very special watch.
