Carrying your video-camera in your hand can be a tiresome activity. On the other hand, shooting a video with your iPhone isn’t exactly satisfactory, mainly because you can’t always get a steady shot. Instagram just launched Hyperlapse, an iPhone app which eliminates the wobble effect and offers some additional features. Despite the fact that Microsoft announced the new technology for using “hyperlapse” in a video two weeks ago, Instagram is the first to bring this method of capture to market with their first mobile app.
The app is very easy to use. You just press the record button and once you’ve finished recording you can use a slider to adjust the playback speed. You can opt to render the video at a rate between a 1x and 12x speed, to suit your artistic view. The further the object is moving away, the faster the video should be played. In the past, such results could be obtained using expensive software or expensive camera stabilizing systems.

You’re probably wondering why haven’t the developers integrated the function directly into the Instagram app, and the answer is that the function is too good to be hidden in the depths of Instagram which is already crowded with all kind of functions. The great part is that you don’t have to own a Facebook or Instagram account! The app is available on the App Store and it’s compatible with iPhone 5, 5C and 5S. We don’t know if and when it will be available for Android and Windows phones.
