In the past seven years, Harry Styles has gone from being in a boy band to becoming something of a fashion icon. It was only a matter of time before he collaborated with a fashion brand to make his line. The singer’s longtime friend Alessandro Michele, who is the creative director of Gucci, designed Styles’ outfit for the 2019 Met Gala. Michele also worked with Styles to make Gucci’s new line, Gucci Ha Ha Ha.
Styles and Michele have worked together for quite some time. The singer was the face of a Gucci campaign in 2018, and Styles’ love of Gucci has led to some of his most memorable fashion moments, like the white pants he wore on the cover of his Fine Line album and the famous blue dress he wore on the cover of Vogue. They had also worked together on a t-shirt called “Fine Line” that was sold to promote Styles’ second solo album.
At Milan Men’s Fashion Week on Monday, the Gucci Ha Ha Ha collection was shown for the first time. The ’70s-inspired collection is named after Styles and Michele’s initials and their chosen text sign-off. It includes newsboy caps, sweater vests, grumpy teddy bear brooches, and a yellow gingham three-piece suit with cherries and bright blue sheep printed on it.
Michele told Rain Mag, “The idea of working together came to me one day while we were talking on the phone: I proposed creating a ‘dream wardrobe’ with him, starting from those small oddities that come together in childlike visions”.
All of the pieces look like they could be worn by Styles at an awards show or on stage. When talking to Women’s Wear Daily, Michele called it “the look of a lord who morphs into a rock star” and they have a lot of bright colors and fun details. “The idea of this capsule is banal in its simplicity, and it’s an act of love,” Michele told WWD. “It has value, it’s sophisticated and we paid a lot of attention to fabrics and sartorial details”.
A t-shirt with the grumpy teddy bear and the words “I want more berries and that summer feeling” and a bright pink sweater with the same “Watermelon Sugar” lyric are examples of fan-friendly styles that might be less expensive.
Prices haven’t been set yet, but Styles fans might want to start saving up now because the collection is said to be for sale in October.
