Think straight
Parking could prove to be one of the main challenges of any road ahead. I remember that when I got tested for my driver’s license, I failed the parallel parking part of the test. It took me a long time to understand how it’s done, but now everything is straight in my mind. If I had this back then, maybe everything would have been all better. If you have your own problems about this, don’t be afraid to admit it too. Come on. See, you’re not less of a man now than you were before.
First of all, pick the right spot
Someone used mathematics to make us all understand how this action should work. But for now, we’re leaving it to the instinct of the little race car driver inside.
3-in-1
Before you start there are three conditions which must be met: make sure you have enough lateral distance from the other parked cars, not too wide, not too narrow. Secondly, your wheels must be even and thirdly your front wheels must meet the rear wheels of the car ahead, the car that you’re gonna park behind of.
Now let the parking commence
Turn your wheels towards the curb. All the way. Move your car in reverse, until a 45 degree angle is made with the sidewalk and the lateral side of your car. You can also pretend there is a line connecting the outside wheels of both cars. When your rear inside tire touches the line, it’s time to stop. Now reverse the wheel to make your wheels look straight ahead on that 45 degree angle. Easier said, straighten out and keep backing out until the front left tire touches that imaginary line.
Almost there
Now reverse the steering wheel the other way toward the street, so that the front of the car fits in place. Once you are parallel to the curb, stop. Finally, you can adjust your position if it’s not leaving enough room for the car behind to come out of its spot. Game over, good job!
