After reading a book of Native American poetry, Kansas guitarist Kerry Livgren wrote the famous song. “For all we are is dust in the wind” was the line that caught his attention.
This got him thinking about the true value of things and what success really meant. The band was doing well and making money, but Kerry realized that, like everyone else, he would die one day. We all end up in the ground, regardless of our possessions or achievements.
