Can you feel the might embracing you?
Yamaha is back. The YZF-R1 model is an open class sport bike, or superbike, motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company since 1998. Sometimes abbreviated simply as R1, this model is just a classic. Anybody who doesn’t want to recognize this is, and allow me to put it bluntly, off the track. It has been used in the SuperBike World Championship, and features the starting line up this year as well.
The road back to glory
The last edition to come out from the Japanese producer can be traced back to 2012, meaning that everybody had expectancies from them in the way of a great comeback. Well, I am here to let you know that they delivered in style. The brand new 2015-2016 street-going Yamaha YZF-R1 was announced at the centennial EICMA motorcycle show. It was also announced a limited edition, called the R1M to be made, coming with different tires, body work, suspension or fuel tank. The engine they’ll put on display is a lightweight and compact, inline-four cylinder, 998cc high output engine. They are still to unveil the total horsepower and maximum speed. Also, the engine will feature titanium fracture-split connecting rods, claiming to be the first ever for a production motorcycle. The whole body is designed for a maximum aerodynamic efficency, inspired by the YZR-M1 model, the one they use in MotoGP. The real deal when it comes to improvements is the six-axis inertial measurement unit, the first one to be seen on a street-legal model. Innovation is right here, in front of our eyes, in the form of a total 3D controllability.
It’s a good addition to someone’s collection, but can also represent a very special upgrade in terms of street-riding. Think of it as a step forward for Yamaha, a step every rider has anticipated with enthusiasm. Also, for their 60th anniversary, they decided to release a special yellow and black limited edition.
