Most race cars nowadays feature the aggressive look provided through the highly aerodynamic components installed on the body. However, it’s not everyday that you get to witness the raw power and rage of an unfinished car. It is a tremendous surprise to see that, from all the brands out there, Volvo is the one to provide the picture of the day, with its S60 Polestar TC1, a WTCC prepared version of the standard S60 available at the local dealer in your city.
This racetrack version of the S60 has been built to work with the latest FIA introduced regulations for the World Touring Car Championship. The build features a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, based on Volvo’s Drive-E architecture. The power unit is able to provide 400 hp to the wheels.
As you can see from the attached pictures, the S60 looks badass in plain black paint, along with all its carbon fiber inserts. Polestar Cyan Racing will be the ones campaigning the car for the next years. This is especially nice to hear since not long ago, Volvo considered taking out all its racing grade units out of the market. Still, the team behind this project has been split from Volvo’s tuning division, which was taken in-house.
The main adversaries in the forthcoming WTCC competitions are represented by Honda, Citroen and Chevy. It will be a delight to see how well the S60 will compete against these, but since the Polestar Cyan Racing team has quite a few STCC titles under their name, the competition should fear.
