Shakira is unable to conceal her emotions. Fans believe that certain lines on the “Whenever, Wherever” singer’s next album, which will be her first in five years, may allude to current events in her life, such as her breakup with Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué.
Shakira talks about a relationship with a dishonest boyfriend in her song “Te Felicito,” which translates to “I Congratulate You,” alongside Rauw Alejandro.
“For pleasing you, I broke into pieces. They warned me but I didn’t pay attention. I realized you were fake. It was the drop that spilled the glass.” Shakira sings.
“Don’t tell me how you feel. It seems sincere, but I know you well and I know you lie.” She goes on. Some fans who attempted to interpret the song on Twitter think it was written by Gerard.
On Twitter, a commenter said in Spanish, “Shakira’s “Te Felicito” is a good choice for understanding the rumors. Oh Piqué, how wonderfully you act,” with a second commenter adding in Spanish, “Fan Theory: Shakira is congratulating her ex Gerard Piqué in the song “I congratulate you on how well you act.”
After 11 years of marriage, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer and FC Barcelona footballer announced their separation in June.
In a recent interview, Shakira clarified the meaning of the phrase but would not say whether it alluded to her relationship with Gerard.
“I can only say that either consciously or subconsciously, everything I feel, everything I go through is reflected in the lyrics I write, in the videos I make. When the glove fits, it fits. Like I said before, my music is that channel.” Shakira mentioned it from other sources.
Shakira said in the interview that “everything is so raw and new,” and therefore she refrained from going into great detail about her split.
