The intense bodily preparation for Baywatch wasn’t good for Zac Efron’s mental health, if anything Zac Efron’s Baywatch training gave him depression. The 34-year-old discussed the unfavorable repercussions of his diet and exercise regimen for the 2017 film, in which he displayed his most chiseled body while competing with Herculean co-star Dwayne Johnson, in an interview for the magazine’s October 2022 cover story.
“I started to develop insomnia. and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time. Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering. Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up. That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. I much prefer to have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat.” Zac remarked.
According to sources, Efron started feeling better six months after the movie was finished, and after taking a break from acting and living in Australia at the beginning of the pandemic, he reportedly went the other way.
