It seems like Spotify is getting into the live concert ticket business. According to MusicAlly, the firm has established a new website that enables customers to purchase tickets directly from Spotify as opposed to going via a middleman like Ticketmaster.
The website premiered with a lineup of seven musicians that were “ticketed by Spotify.” Tickets for upcoming performances by Limbeck, Annie DiRusso, Crows, Dirty Honey, Tokimonsta, Four Years Strong, and Osees are currently on sale.
Additionally, users have the choice to browse past and upcoming events as well as any tickets they have already bought via the service.
A Spotify representative referred to the ticketing website as an experiment that isn’t yet included into any marketing strategies in a statement provided to Billboard. The statement continues, “At Spotify, we frequently test new products and ideas to improve our customer experience.
“Some of those ultimately help to shape our larger user experience, while others just serve as significant lessons learned. Our most recent test is tickets.spotify.com. At this time, we have no more information to provide about our future plans.
Following a blog post from June in which a company representative discussed how customers were leaving their native Spotify applications to buy tickets from other websites, Spotify has launched a new ticketing platform.
According to Sam Sheridan, Product Manager for Live Events Discovery, “We believe the Live Events Feed is a chance to help complete this loop.” This lessens the pressure on fans, lessens the competition that artists must face in order to stand out, and generates new marketing efficiencies.
In the next sections, the post describes a new Live Events Feed that will provide concert listings from partners such as Tickemaster, AXS, DICE, Eventbrite, See Tickets, and more. René Volker, Spotify’s Senior Director of Live Events, writes in the blog post, “Our objective is to guarantee that fans are informed of all of the forthcoming events by the artists they love and the creators they may grow to adore.”
“We think if we do it right, we can bring more fans to more performances and assist artists and venues fill their venues more effectively,” they continued.
In 2021, Spotify began offering tickets for taped video concerts by Jack Antonoff, Leon Bridges, girl in red, the Black Keys, and Rag’n’Bone Man as part of a series of “virtual concert experiences.”
