Getting in a healthy routine is one thing – with it’s own unique challenges – but sticking to it is an entirely different issue. Things become even more challenging when you need to travel frequently. You’re busy, the available food probably isn’t the best and you may not have access to a gym. Even if the hotel has a “fitness center” these facilities aren’t typically what one might consider fully stocked. So how can you do it? How can you stay fit on the road? Here are three simple tips.

1. Meal Prep.
Spend a little bit of extra time preparing food before you head out – especially if you’ll be driving. Having food already prepared will help you resist the temptation to indulge in some cheap, convenient fast food while you’re traveling.
2. Don’t Deprive Yourself.
This might seem a little counter-intuitive, but to a certain extent you should indulge yourself a bit. If you’re trying to change your eating habits, you may feel like you simply can’t enjoy your meals but this strict approach probably won’t last long. And, if your trip is a vacation, you may even feel like you somehow got cheated. So, allow yourself a small amount of deviation
3. Deload.
If you have been working out for a while, a little break could actually be exactly what you need. In the days leading up to your trip, you might have noticed that your workouts have been a little… lackluster and your performance may have decreased. These could be signs that you’re hitting a plateau. In order to get through it and avoid overdoing things, a short rest could be perfect.
Don’t use the time off from your usual activity to be a total lump, though. Instead, do something else. If you normally lift, for example, try going for a run. The idea is to stay active while not using the same form of exercise as you normally would.
